2026 Focus: Securing the Future of Urologic Clinical Trials Amidst Declining Government Funding
In 2026, the AUACTC is turning its attention to one of the most urgent threats facing clinical research: reduced government funding for clinical trials. Without action, critical studies face delay or cancellation, threatening innovation, patient access, and research equity.
AUACTC will lead a national conversation on how the urology community can respond with sustainable solutions, new partnership models, and systems-level reform.
In its first two years, the AUACTC focused on:
Addressing site-level resource constraints
Developing clinical trial navigator strategies
Increasing physician awareness and referrals
Promoting diversity in trial participation
Confronting Reduced Federal Funding
Analyze current NIH and agency investment trends
Assess impact on trial timelines and diversity
Explore public-private partnerships and consortium funding
Sustainability Planning
Workforce & Infrastructure Development
Advocacy & Policy Integration
Spring (AUA Annual Meeting, In Person): Strategy sessions on funding, partnerships, and infrastructure
Summer (Virtual): Share research findings and develop recommendations
Fall (Virtual): Finalize direction and outline potential 2027 activities
Final outputs will be determined by AUACTC members based on discussions and priorities identified throughout the year. Potential areas of focus may include:
Landscape analysis of clinical trial funding trends
Concepts for sustainable funding or partnership models
Tools or resources to support trial sites and infrastructure
Policy briefs or communication materials for stakeholders
$50K per 2 seats/year (annual membership)
AUACTC remains a member-driven initiative—its direction and deliverables will reflect the insights, goals, and collaboration of the full collective.
2026 Launch: Advancing the Integration of Precision Medicine in Urologic Care
1 Chair (AUA member with precision medicine expertise)
12 Core Physician Members (academic and community-based, with biomarker/genomic experience)
Industry Members (up to 2 seats per company via sponsorship)
AUA Staff Liaison (Office of Education)
The AUA Precision Medicine Collective (AUAPMC) is dedicated to advancing the thoughtful integration of precision medicine into urologic care by identifying real-world barriers, supporting clinician education, and promoting equitable access to biomarker-driven and genomically-informed treatment strategies. Through collaboration among urologists, industry, and thought leaders, the AUAPMC will shape a scalable roadmap to enhance outcomes for patients across all practice settings.
Biomarker Utilization
Genetic and Genomic Testing
Personalized Medicine in Practice
Implementation Challenges
All AUAPMC strategies will be informed by a comprehensive needs assessment including:
One-on-one interviews with industry liaisons
Literature review of trends and data
National survey of AUA urologists and APPs
Findings will be shared exclusively with AUAPMC members to guide educational priorities and resource development.
Year 1 – Listening & Landscape Assessment
Conduct interviews and moderated spring session
Launch survey to validate key challenges
Prioritize focus areas and plan toolkits
Year 2 – Toolkit Development & Education Planning
Year 3 – Programmatic Rollout & Strategic Expansion
Roll out educational tools (e.g., webinars, workshops)
Explore navigator training and communication tools
Facilitate peer learning and data-sharing
Collaborate directly with leading AUA clinicians
Gain insights into national trends and barriers
Shape the roadmap for precision care in urology
Receive early access to needs assessment and AUA-developed solutions
Over the course of three years, the AUAPMC aims to implement a physician education dissemination plan focused on integrating precision medicine into urologic care. This includes raising awareness of biomarker-guided and genomically informed strategies, supporting clinical decision-making, and addressing implementation challenges. These efforts will help improve outcomes and promote equitable access across practice settings.
